December 2024.
CAN YOU GUESS THE 3 CATTON PARK TREES FROM THESE CLUES?
Read on to find out....
As you can see, not quite the usual start to my post - but it's Christmas!
The hard work hasn't changed, we are as busy as ever.
Done some litter picking....
Not quite the usual discard!
Finished another oak whip enclosure at the Deer Park....
Cleared two more planted areas, including elm coppicing...
Cut back more brambles, did some work on the lodge pond, etc etc.
The city college volunteers have also been hard at work....
They are hoping to continue this mammoth task in the new year....
Anyway, as it's Christmas time, I thought I'd make this issue a bit more fun....
And so...., I offer you my very own shortened version of the nativity (Catton Park style).
'In the deep mid winter'....
Well, not that bad actually.
The baby Jesus wrapped in swaddling clothes....
Well, a hibernating hedgehog wrapped in leaves (found behind some machinery in the lodge compound, and moved undisturbed to a safer location).
And not forgetting the three wise men (Caspar, Melchior & Balthasar)....
Well, three wise ponies anyway.
Ok, have you guessed the trees? Answers below....
Wellingtonia (wellington + ear)....AKA sequoia. Not the scale of the American giant but our biggest and tallest trees in the park.
Sweet Chestnut....(no need to explain), I bet most got this.
Sycamore.... (sick, M, oar)
Hope you enjoyed this special edition. I'll be back in the new year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS! 🎄🎅🎄

Guessed them all, though that first one was tricky!
