Whole Lotta Trouble

April 2025. We spent half a day filling holes at various bench sites across the park.

I can only imagine that the owners of these four legged friends were sat watching.

There is so much more important work that we could have done during this time.

Unfortunately, this is a recurring problem that has to be dealt with.

Before that, Tabby and I fired up the incinerator to burn another heap of bramble which had been cleared (with the help of the city college volunteers) from under one of the parkland trees.

We also opened out a rainwater run-off gulley leading into the woods next to the woodchip bay. This had become clogged with silt and pine needles over time.

The wild garlic has been looking and smelling good again!

With the continuing lovely spring weather, I had my first ride-on mow of the year. I started at the south eastern end of the picnic area (also clearing old dried grasses surrounding some of the trees). I then concentrated on the apple orchard next to Victoria pond.

In between, Tabby and I removed sections of ivy around some trees in the east woods.

Back of the picnic area, next to the hoggin path....

Our next task involved removing algae, which annually coats the main gates.

Using long hoses and extension leads, we connected up the pressure washer and blasted away.

The photo opposite shows the difference between the washed and unwashed!

Whilst we were attending to this, news came of a rare sighting of a yellow bird in the park....

....Ta Da! Apparently, there was an incident nearby at the Church Street junction, and the air ambulance  happened to be flying past.

I'm always amazed how quickly the trees seem to green up. One minute it's just buds and the next there are leaves sprouting everywhere! The grass is also getting a shift on.... so I spent a day mowing the verges of the main tracks & hoggin paths, plus redefining the trails through the parkland.

The apple orchard also needed going over again....

I'm looking forward to the next lot of wild flowers that start appearing this time of year. Check out the cowslips if you happen to visit the park in the next few days.

Once again, I hope you have enjoyed catching up ☺

The essential work continues

February 2026  I always really enjoy my time at the park. However, helping to maintain this beautiful sanctuary does require a lot of unvari...
