Cutting back

Much of the summer of 2021 involved cutting back and clearing. With the growing season in full swing, there were plenty of low hanging branches along public footpaths, plus weeds, nettles, grasses etc were taking over planted beds and edges of woodland pathways.

The examples below show 'before & after' clearing of beds.

Clearing the fence-line on Oak Lane. The heavy duty hedge trimmer made short work of the overgrown ivy & holly, and there were more low branches to lop & saw through.

Tree planting would normally occur later in the year, but as the summer had been a little unsettled, it was decided to plant some in the freshly cleared picnic bed. We added a Handkerchief tree, Tulip tree and a Forest Pansy. The taller ones have been protected with metal cages.

We also planted 2 Red Hawthorn trees with cage protection.

All of the trees were surrounded with woodchip and well watered.
